VAERS and vaccine injury reporting
Claimed for: How injury data is collected, and how it is read
The claim that adverse event reporting systems reveal mass vaccine deaths being suppressed — and the counter-claim that vaccine injuries essentially do not happen. Both misread what the data is.
01The claim
As told: the US Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System records tens of thousands of deaths following vaccination, and the fact that these are not headline news proves suppression. A supporting argument holds that only a small percentage of real events are ever reported, so the true figure is far higher. The mirror-image claim, made in the opposite direction, is that vaccine injury is vanishingly rare to the point of being a non-issue.
02Origin
VAERS was established by the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, alongside a no-fault compensation programme, precisely because vaccine injuries are real and litigating them individually was destroying vaccine supply. Its design was then repurposed in argument: a system built as an open early-warning net was presented as a register of confirmed casualties.

“A man who developed myocarditis in his twenties days after a second dose describes filing a report, having the diagnosis confirmed, recovering fully, and being angry at both the people who used his case as proof of mass death and the acquaintances who told him it could not have happened.”
mixedReported 2021Paraphrased from publicly circulating accounts. The myocarditis signal in young males is documented and led to formal guidance changes.
“A parent who pursued a claim through the compensation programme describes years of paperwork, an eventual award, and a persistent frustration that the process exists but is almost never mentioned in public argument about whether injuries are real.”

04What's known
VAERS accepts reports from anyone, unverified, for any event following vaccination regardless of cause. A death recorded there may be a car accident the week after a shot. This is deliberate — the system exists to catch signals early, and filtering at intake would defeat that. It is how the 1976 Guillain-Barre signal, the 1999 rotavirus intussusception withdrawal, and the 2021 myocarditis signal in young males were all found, each of which led to real action. Underreporting is also real, which is why controlled systems such as the Vaccine Safety Datalink exist to quantify rates against unvaccinated comparison populations. On the other side: the US compensation programme has paid out more than $5 billion since 1988. Vaccine injury is documented, adjudicated and compensated. It is neither the mass-casualty event of the first claim nor the non-event of the second.
Documented risk
Both directions of misreading cause harm: raw report counts presented as confirmed deaths, and genuine adverse events dismissed because the reporting system is imperfect.
